UFC 141: The End of “The Next Big Thing”

Ben January 2, 2012 0
On Friday night, we witnessed the end of one Heavyweight’s career and a new chapter in another. Brock Lesnar retired Friday night after Alistair Overeem kicked the soul out of his liver. It was a brutally beautiful ending to a fight where Lesnar looked out of his element during the whole fight. I personally thought that at some point Lesnar would retire, he isn’t a person who needs fighting, he can go back to the WWE and make a few million dollars easily. On Overeem’s part he no longer toils in obscurity at being the best Heavyweight outside of Zuffa (and that includes Fedor) and is now going to fight Junior Dos Santos for the Heavyweight strap sometime soon. I am sad to see Lesnar go but it’s not like we probably won’t see him in a WWE ring again soon.

So, my fight picks were absolutely horrible for this card.

  • Nate Diaz put on a show against Donald Cerrone who seemed to let his emotions take him out of the fight. Diaz landed a crazy 82% of his strikes.
  • Johnny Hendicks  knocked Jon Fitch back into his mother’s placenta in 12 seconds with a sweet overhand left.
  • Alexander Gustafson isn’t the guy to beat Jon Jones, but he is going to be a Top 5 Light Heavyweight for the next 10 years.
  • Jimmy Hettes put an ass whooping on Nam Phan. I scored both the 1st and 3rd rounds 10-8.

Overall, UFC 141 was an excellent night of fights.

You all know what time it is. It’s time for a fighter highlight – this time we have Marvelous Melvin Manhoef. Is he the best fighter in the world? No but he brings the violence every single time so sit back and enjoy.
