Anyone who knows me knows that I am probably the biggest Spider-Man fan around.

I own almost all of the comics (even the shitty ones starring Ben Reilly), I have action figures, shirts, and even a goofy hooded sweater. So with that said, I can take my credibility and go on to say that contrary to the general consensus, I actually enjoyed the Sam Raimi trilogy, regardless of their more Hollywood approach and less comic-book feel. They were entertaining and fun for a fan like me who didn’t sit there bitching about how far removed from the comics they were (even though I did on the inside).

Now we have the reboot movie, Amazing Spider-Man, and by looking at the quick teaser trailer, it seems they are going for that “Dark Knight” feel, with a grittier, darker, scarier Spider-World.

That’s cool, I can dig that – but keep in mind that through the darkness, Spidey still shines with his quick wit and sarcasm and ability to stay positive despite the odds. This a trait that the Raimi films pretty much missed the mark on, and this film so far seems to be skipping out on that as well, with their seemingly depressed Peter Parker.

I also see that Curt Connors appears to be less of a down-to-Earth, mellow scientist buddy to Peter and more like a Dr. Doom “I run this shit, I’m motherfucking God” kind of guy.

Plus, we are treated to a nifty First Person segment, reminiscent of the video game “Mirror’s Edge”. And by treated, I mean “forced to watch while we fucking cringed”.

Yeah, let’s nix that part, OK?

But so far, not so bad. I’m definitely interested while hoping for a longer trailer soon and will reserve judgment until I see more, obviously.  I’m just going by what this short video gave me, and there are things I’d rather not see again, like that God damned FPS mode…..

What are your thoughts thus far?

So far this looks really bad. The first person video game shit was terrible! Also, the guy playing spider-man looks like he's in his mid-twenties, which he is. If they were going to go all Andrea from 90210 on this they might as well have gotten Betty White to play the role. At least then the movie would have some funny lines.
