1st Impressions: Robert Rodriguez’s Predators:Trailer

A few days ago I posted a sneak peek at the upcoming reimagining of the Predator mythos and while most people seemed to like the overall concept some of my listeners felt that they went beyond typical storytelling and did not represent the franchise accurately. Here is the official trailer which give a bit more footage than the sneak peak along with a poster. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below or in the forum.

Okay, I gotta admit the concept is more accurate with the mythos now, and it is definitely a different concept. I was originally skeptical of the idea of Predators kidnapping people from Earth and releasing them to a different planet to hunt them down, but I sat and thought about it for a while and I'm now on the supportive side.

What I don't understand is, how do the Predators know that these people are the best game to hunt? They don't speak English (or any Earthly languages), so how did they select that group? I understand that most Elder Predators know a few words and phrases in Human Languages (by "know" I mean they can say them and understand what they're trying to say), but not enough to be able to evaluate individual people. They'd have to have been doing some form of recon for a long time.

One assumption I can make about the planet they're put on is that it's NOT the Predator homeworld. We've seen the Homeworld in one of the films now, if any film were to contradict that, I'd be sorely outraged. Sure, they can say that AvP and AvP:R aren't canon if they want to, but there's already enough AvP storytelling that implements parts of both films that it seems to be getting weaved deeper and deeper into the mythos. Anyway, this Predator-selected hunting planet answers one of my biggest questions. What about the Predator Attack Dogs we saw? Now it makes sense, they're just indigenous life on the planet.

What I don't like is that it seems like there's more Predators hunting the human group than there are Humans. To outnumber them is dishonorable. There better be leaps and bounds made in this film to demonstrate the Predator honor code.

Anyway, I gotta get ready for work. I'm skeptical, but still gonna spend my $10 to see it in theaters.

This is why I like when your involved Ant. I felt the exact same way in relation to how the characters were picked to be hunted. I really hope they flesh out that bit of storytelling as in overall scheme of things it's very important. From what I gather and have seen in various forums there are Predators that only hunt for pleasure of killing and those that hunt with honor. If this occurs I think that will explain the abundance of predators as a whole. Nice to see you giving it a shot.

The Predators that kill just for the pleasure of killing aren't Hunters. They're "Killers". They're Rogues. They wouldn't take people to a planet and give them weapons to hunt them. They don't hunt at all. They're dishonorable, they will kill living things whether they're armed or not, and they'd do it wherever they found them. No honor, no rules, just cold blooded killing. That doesn't seem like the case with this movie at all.

I think the Hunter & The Killers will be used again this just an assessment based purely on speculation. I am hoping we see some scripts or plot details sooner rather than later so we can know what to expect.
