For weeks, Nintendo has been hyping up some special announements which many thought would have to do with the Wii but as it turns out, the hardware focus came from the new Nintendo DSi XL. The DSi XL, as it name implies, is a larger DSi with a larger stylus. As I stated a few episodes back, this DSi has e-reader written all over it — and I was correct as Nintendo will be releasing a 100-Classics Book Collection. This coleection will include books from authors such as Shakespeare, Dickens, Austen, Dumas, Twain and many others and will only cost $19.99 when it’s released on 6/14. At $189.99 the system is only $20 bucks more than the smaller DSi, which to some may be a good value given the larger screen. While I feel Nintendo is just recycling the DSi, I am certain this larger system will appeal to some casual gamers and may even be the start of a DSi e-book reader. Should Apple be concerned with this little addition? Have a look for yourself and decide.
Nintendo also took the opportunity to show Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M in action along with giving some release info for these two upcoming titles.
While I am looking forward to Super Mario Galaxy 2, the slides and presentation for Metroid: Other M really got my attention due to Team Ninja’s involvement. The Metroid universe is interpreted in typical over the top fashion, but well designed Team Ninja Style. M:OM plays very different yet keeps some key Metroid elements, but they also gave Samus a voice. I am sure there will be some griping about the boobage that Samus was given, but I can look past that for the fact that it’s a Team Ninja trademark and also because the gameplay is what makes this a must own.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be available 5/23/10 & Metroid: Other M will be available 6/27/10. Looks like the Spring belongs to Nintendo for the moment. I can’t wait to play both of these titles.
Probably not, because that would make it unsafe for children
