For months I have heard about the possible remake of The Karate Kid, and I said to myself, “the plot is simple and to the point, so the odds of getting it wrong are slim”. Sadly, I was mistaken with that assessment. The basic premise goes as follows: Single mom and son move to new home — son has trouble fitting in — son takes a liking to popular girl — boyfriend/bully makes life hard for the son — son meets janitor who is martials art master — son learns to fight and beat bully/boyfriend in tournament or contest of some sort. How easy does that sound? It has been used in countless movies and is usually okay.
I’ll leave you with this: Karate = Japanese martial art. Jackie Chan = Chinese. The boy = learning Kung Fu. Oh yeah, and it’s called The Karate Kid. You be the judge:

This reminds me of Jackie's old old OLD school kung fu movies where it involves unorthodox (sometimes extreme) methods of teaching kung fu from an unexpecting teacher. Drunken style boxing to a 10 year old anyone? lol
Another thing is...why is Jackie beating up a bunch of kids???
Anyways...I just hope they explain why the kid's learning kung fu for a karate tournament.
